Dayamn!!!!

Let's talk about things worthy of a Dayamn!!!

2008 is almost over and at this point a lot of us have prepared our New Year Resolutions as our voluntary obligations to fulfill in the New Year coming.

I’ve been searching the web looking for articles that provide tips or guides to write New Year Resolutions and after reading a few I feel a little disappointed. I read some articles written by psychologists, universities and popular sites and they all stick to the same dull rule: “keep it simple and feasible”.

Everywhere I read I found quotes like “recognize your limits and prepare resolutions you can accomplish”, “keep it real”, “write resolutions that make sense”, “stick to the plan”, “write a plan”, “go easy on you” and couldn’t bear it anymore so I decided to write some tips so you can prepare New Year Resolutions that aim for the right direction.

I know that by writing this article I might get a lot of critics as I criticize the blandness of all the tips and guides I read but I don’t care, I just want to present another point of view so you can have more options and choose the one that suits you the best.

1. Make impossible resolutions: Despite fighting constantly with my mom since I was a child – because I apply this concept to my whole life – I have always believed that being realistic is the same thing as being conformist or mediocre. Why thinking of boundaries? Why limiting yourself to things you know you can accomplish? I think that’s stupid (I say that a lot, don’t I?) and I’m not going to leave it like that because it has to have an explanation in order to be a solid answer. Well, here it goes, humans are lazy, we almost never accomplish a goal because we tend to get bored. Discipline is the toughest habit you can achieve so to keep you motivated always aim for the impossible. I prepared a graphic that can perfectly explain what I mean.

By setting an impossible goal you will achieve more than what you could achieve by being realistic. No one knows itself too good to know one’s boundaries – trust me, I have tested myself with goals I’ve been called stupid for (even I called myself stupid for some of them :) ) but without those goals I would have never achieved what I have because is much more than what could have been a realistic goal. Of course, you always have to have the attitude so you can truly believe you will achieve that impossible goal and never let yourself down when not achieving it. You can write a realistic goal along with an impossible one so you can see that you have achieved more than the realistic goal when you aim for the impossible.

2. Be creative: Let your imagination dazzle you when you write your resolutions. Make them fun and amusing so it’s more difficult to get bored in the way.

3. Recycle: If you have written a good resolution before and you haven’t achieved it yet, use it again! If it has given you a lot, why not taking some of the juice left in it?

4. Be cautious: If you don’t have a solid self-esteem, don’t let a lot of people know about your resolutions because it can be pretty frustrating being called stupid by a lot of people – been there, done that :) .

5. Set NO limits: Think of life as a board game and you being the best player. Don’t take life so seriously because you numb your brain with problems and it can stop you from thinking in the solutions.

Well friends, I hope this tips work for you. They sure have done a lot for me.

Just because I have a kind of solid self-esteem, I give you my New Year Resolution list:

1. Build a residential complex of at least ten nice houses and give them as a gift to all my relatives so we can all live together as a big family.
2. Be a martial arts expert from scratch.
3. Be the owner of at least one more business (I already own one).
4. Help at least one clueless person to become someone productive in life.
5. Pay my brothers a trip to Paris on their vacations.
6. Learn Chinese.
7. Place this blog in the top 25 blogs of time.com

“Keep it real”… Dayamn! That’s dumb (notice that I didn’t say stupid).
